Miyavi & PMX - Monday, January 24, 2005 09:05 p.m.
Okay, well, I heard about Miyavi possibly going to Disney World, I bugged my friend about possibly getting him to make a trip to this year's PMX as well. And this is the AIM convo my friend had with the guy in charge of PMX and thus the guests of honor (GOHs)
My friend is marked 'Friend' and the guy in charge is marked 'GOH Guy'. Lame labeling and all, but just to keep things nice and clear and I don't want my friend to get spammed on AIM. =3
Friend: A few people have been asking about Miyavi
So...if you want Miyavi to come to the PMX, go to the forums and *VOICE IT*. If anyone lives in another area other than the west coast or Southern California, but would like him to come to their con, you can probably do much the same for your own local con since as the guy in charge of PMX points out, the labels *read the forums*. So make him wanted. I've already started a thread there, so get going!

Psych - Tuesday, October 7, 2003 03:40 p.m.
Another topic that came up was the idea that if someone had their brain/mind/neurons replaced by silicon chips and programming and whatnot, if they could be considered conscious or human. Although I love computers very much and I've been known to like anime characters that are considered to be cyborgs, thirds, robots, paopee ningen, or other "special" humans, I don't really consider them to be totally human. Nataku for instance, was born a living weapon. There are plenty of things about him that seem distinctively human, but there's a lot about him that makes him different. The reiju ball in the place where it looks like his heart would be, the fact that he could be reborn with lotus flowers, the ability to fly, use paopee, and his incredible endurance in battle. These things make him a paopee ningen or a Sennin, not a normal ningen. The same goes with computers and replacing a human brain with a computer brain. Although it is possible to program it in a fashion so that it can simulate any one human's behavior, it's still a simulation. I've only worked with AI a little bit in my programming experience, but there's one valuable lesson you learn. AI cannot ever perfectly simulate randomness. Computers can simulate many things and they have the ability to learn, but they are still incredibly precise and have next to no margin of error. Randomness functions in programming languages are not even really random. They only simulate randomness according to a set algorithm, but if you know the algorithm you can predict the randomness easily. That's why in one of my projects last year for making a maze, when we called the randomness function made by sun, we had to make sure we created the object OUTSIDE the while loop or else we'd be stuck in an infinite loop because it would then always try to run the operation with the same number, and the way our programs worked, if they called a number that corresponded with an action that could not be taken because we were at the end of the maze, the program was supposed to loop back and get another "random" number. But if we created the random number generator in the wrong place, the same number would always come up, so it would keep trying to get a new one, but no new one would come up. Human beings are different though. No matter how many times we do a task, it's always far from perfect and there's always a chance that we'll do worse than we did previously. For a computer they always do the same or better (provided the programmer programmed them correctly). Human nature cannot even be simulated so easily because although we normally act a certain way, part of what makes up humanity is the randomness and spontanaeity of human life. Even though we typically act a certain way, we could change one day on a whim for maybe even just once for a change of pace for a while. This is where AI usually fails since it's on a set algorithm. The margin for change is very very small or at least very very gradual many times because somebody at some point has to sit down and write some kind of step plan for the computer to follow to simulate the randomness, but because there IS a step plan, it makes it not actually random. Humans don't follow a step plan. We feel and we do. When we play a musical instrument, our accuracy fails each time. With skill, we can play similarly as well each time we play a piece over again, but in actuality each concert and each performance is just slightly different. For a computer, if it were possible to give it a piece to play, it would be pretty immaculate each time. It may learn new tricks for better efficiency and whatnot based on statistical data and observations made, but it will still play pretty much the same way. Because of this, I wouldn't be able to say that the person was conscious any longer or truly human, but I would respect them and believe they deserved the same rights as a human because then they have become a new sanctioned being with feelings and emotions although algorithmic. It's just that in this case, mankind has made its own life.
Hrm, well, now that that shpiel's over with, let's talk about my day or week or last few days since I wrote.
First, I got a new more stable cooler host. They've got all kinds of neat stuff. I was looking around at all the goodies they had and I was like "Whee~!" There's two kinds of free chatrooms, two kinds of guestbooks, counters of all kinds of styles, clock, countdowns, something that shows the date, two types of shopping carts in case I want a store (amazing since it's not standardly provided by providers because of difficulty predicting each store owner's needs), two kinds of BBS, and all kinds of cool stuff. I just wanna sit down and play with it all. I pretty much spent my weekend uploading all of that though and all of last week re-vamping my main page's layout. It's cool now. ^^ I also did a ton of programming on Saturday and yesterday, and I'm almost done, but if I'm not done with it by tonight, I'm just gonna go straight to the report portion to get ready for turn in because I have other things to study for like a test in Japanese tomorrow and other things to do tomorrow like going to class for most of the day. I'll only have a couple of hours when I get back to finish up if I'm not done yet, so yah....>.>
Hrm, and that's pretty much it. This week there's the vendors on ring road. I'm thinking about buying a few things. Just to prepare me for the rest of the year because I'm finding that I need a few items to just live off of. I'm thinking I'll buy a sweater/jacket or two from one of the clothing vendors so that I have another type of light jacket wear. I left my two white ones at home by mistake, so all I have is my sweatshirt and my black one with the stripes on the side and my 2-in-1 ski jacket that turns into a lighter black jacket and a windbreaker. I just don't wanna re-use these too much cuz then they get gross, so if I have a couple more sweaters I think I should be good. I also think I should get a pair of those Asian style slippers at one of the footwear vendors. The slippers I have are more for like...bath/shower/pool time, so they get wet and I can't wear them after that 'til they dry. Also, I can't wear those everywhere like walking around to Albertson's or something cuz I'm too lazy to put on my shoes because the friction from the straps rub into my feet and create an open wound, so I need something that's more cloth like that has less friction. Other than that, I think I might get something for ppl's b-days, but I probably shouldn't cuz it's spending extra money and they'd probably be satisfied with a card. And lastly there's personal stuff I really shouldn't be buying like trinkets like a new cell phone cover (I kind of need it cuz it'd be nice to have one that won't let me accidentally push my phone's buttons in my pocket, but I don't NEED it as much as the sweaters and slippers), and bracelets and statues that I just think look cool. Definitely shouldn't buy those cuz I don't need them. I don't wear jewelry and the statues I could buy later on when I have a real job and have more money to actually spend. I've brought enough decorations from home to last me and I know I'll be bringing more down too, so I don't need to buy a statue or something that I don't need (I already have a jade dragon at home) and not to mention have something that doesn't fit with the anime decor when I have still so much more anime stuff at home to bring to decorate with. =D 'sides, I wanna save up to buy a calendar for next year. Must be Gackt or PLC. I usually get two calendars, so yah. Mebbe both or one of those and one anime.
Hrm, well, I think that's all for now. I think I want a short nap. Yah, nap....>.>
Song of the Day: "Hikari (Orchestrated Version)" from the Kingdom Hearts OST
*sighs* - Thursday, October 2, 2003 07:29 p.m.
Hrm, so yah. Classes are pretty interesting for the most part except ICS 52. Very boring. I fall asleep in that class easily, or rather, it doesn't stimulate me to stay awake when I already am tired and stuff. Today I had it this morning right after work, so I went from work all the way to ELH, and programming doesn't keep me awake. Art History does though because we're studying Japanese art and today was the architecture of two buildings built by the Tokugawa regime in Kyoto and Tochigi, so that was interesting. I can now better understand more of my Japanese reports in high school. I just put them together because I had deadlines and stuff, but now I can understand the significance. Psych is fun. It's always interesting and each lecture is like a story. The book isn't quite as hard as I thought it would be. It's pretty readable to me, but the professor said it was difficult. To me, it just seems long....I'm a 2nd year though, so maybe it's easier because I'm more mature? And lastly, Japanese class is fun because I get to learn more about the language and now we're using more applicable Japanese. On Wednesday, Kimura-sensei brought menus from a real restaurant and we looked at them and talked about what foods were on what dish and what we'd want to eat or drink and there was another menu inside one of our text books and we had to order a meal for ourselves that wasn't to exceed 3,000 yen per person. It made me really hungry, but it was a fun activity. =D So basically, I only have to suffer for my major this quarter and otherwise I'm having a great time. ^^
Hrm, and I've seen so many people just walking around and whatnot. I've seen Louie, Lili, Paul, Jesse, John An, Jason, Didi, Tommy, Miro, Hannah Lim, Ann's in my psych class, Nan on her birthday, Diana, Shanika, Evan, Jenny, Jeremiah and James in ICS 52, and I think that's all. Just kinda interesting to see everyone around.
Oh, and sadly, I dunno what's up with my site sometimes. I'm having issues with it. It keeps forwarding to wrong places and stuff, and I feel bad for bugging the maintenance guy because all his work keeps getting undone by some unknown jerk source. I think I might be looking into getting a new home elsewhere if it keeps up. It's kind of annoying and I can't get anything up by ftp for some reason. *sighs*
Lastly, I can't get my tonberrybot to run on this computer. The bot runner won't run for some reason. ;_; Pooh.
Song of the Day: "Dragon Screamer" By DA PUMP (Why do I still even have most of their songs?)
Calmer now... - Sunday, September 28, 2003 11:35 p.m.
I basically talked to two people who are very important to me and that I respect a lot. One's helped me with a great many things, and I appreciate their support and they told me to try not to overreact if there is a talk and that they don't know why he's overreacting over the whole thing. But talking with him really made me feel better. He's a great friend and always knows the right things to say when I need him. He might flake on promises or be a little lazy sometimes, but when you need him, he's there and that's all that matters. ^^ Not that long ago...like a month, I worried so much 'bout whether or not we're still friends and he's kind of helping me through something else. I wish I was friends with him in HS. Ah, well, I've digressed somewhat....
Hrm, and yah, I also played Genso Suikoden today. A lot of back and forth, and I think I'll level up some more cuz I'm borderline to getting my arse kicked by the monsters, and I don't like that. So lvl up I go. =D

Song of the Day: "New World" by Round Table featuring Nino
GOH Guy: It's a possibility
GOH Guy: But he changed labels
GOH Guy: So a lot of things changed
GOH Guy: That's why he had to cancel last year
Friend: I remember, the company that confirmed it no longer was with Miyavi if I remember correctly
GOH Guy: Yes, the booked him past when he was with them
GOH Guy: So the new label got pissed
GOH Guy: I think he was going to some generic convention in Florida
GOH Guy: But that was in May
GOH Guy: Which is how PMX was going to tie into him
GOH Guy: Definitely you should post this on the forums
GOH Guy: We know the labels are reading what is posted
GOH Guy: So a lot of fans asking for him might help
Friend: Ahh I see I see
Friend: the forums are public right?
GOH Guy: Yes
Friends: if so I can get them (the fans) to post there.
GOH Guy: That's the idea
GOH Guy: We want the labels to know that they have a fan base waiting for them
Friend: Instead of me just saying "Some people are interested in miyavi"
Friend: I see okay
GOH Guy: Because we can set up a concert
GOH Guy: But all the label cares about is fans
Friend: Ahh understood
GOH Guy: The other factor is that someone like Harry Lo will go wherever he will make the most money
GOH Guy: If he thnks there is a stronger market at PMX, he will try to bring him there
Friend: That guy is the PMX leader
GOH Guy: We'll also work with the labels to do what we can
Friend: Okay I'll get the people that want him to post on the forums

Hrm, well, I just got back from psych and I'm done for the day too. Some interesting questions were brought up though, and I just wanted to write about my answers here. We finished up the stuff about the split brain patients and it brought up some questions about how many consciousnesses we have. I'm inclined to believe we just have one and happen to agree with one of my classmates who said that maybe the right side just holds the Freudian idea of the super ego, ego, and id and the left side is the side that actually sorts through it all with its common sense. Both hemispheres have reasoning abilities, but the left side is more focused on logic, so that's what I think there. Both sides share or divide up certain functions though, which also leads me to believe that there is just one. The right side focuses on common sense recognition and whatnot, and the left side pretty exclusively in most people has the language center. So to me, it only seems like there's two in split brain patients because there's no interaction between the two for common sense to keep the impulsive right side in check, so it's left to its own devices and at times can be troublesome.
I be tired. It's been a long first real week so far. Tomorrow's the last day thank gawd...I was gonna go to Tomo today, but I opted to try to catch up and be ahead at least somewhat on reading so that I'd have time to program and do stuff next week and whatnot.
Okay, well, I've calmed down quite a bit now. I've talked to some people about the situation, and they pretty much agree that I'm not crazy and that being willing to pay for it should've ended it right there when I said it, so they don't get what the heck is happening either. One of them said they wanted to talk with him and stuff, so we'll see. Eileen just got back like now, but she went to go to Albertson's, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. No talks as of yet, but we'll see if things resolve themselves....
Good grief, some people. I just had a long conversation and found out that Phil wants to talk to all of us 'bout different stuff that we do or have done and whatnot, but really he's being totally unreasonable. I won't talk about anyone else's situation, but mainly mine. It's totally stupid. Part of it is power usage and stuff like that. Understandable because I'm habitually a computer/console/electronics user, so I'm always using power. It's something I grew up with and all my hobbies require the usage of electricity and I also need it to keep in contact with my friends through AIM and RO cuz I'm social like that and I like to do those things. Apparently, Phil's gonna bitch to me about this tomorrow, but it's really unwarranted cuz I already DID offer to pay for more for the electricity bill so that no one else would have to pay for electricity they didn't use. Make sense right? But he didn't accept and he wants to bitch to me about electricity. Logically, it makes sense that if you use more power, you pay more because if you live buy yourself that's how it works between you and the power company, so how we split the bill should be adjusted like that accordingly. But he's so damn fucking unreasonable he won't take it, which makes no sense. I know my habits and I know I'll be using a lot of electricity, so I said that I would be willing to pay more. And then I heard there was something 'bout using him for RO. I don't know what the hell kind of fucking crap that is cuz I didn't have my computer yet and my old computer died and it couldn't run it, so I needed to use a computer to check my e-mail and talk to my friends and play a game that I really love. And then there's something about asking me or Eileen to leave, which I don't get cuz if I leave, EVERYONE HAS TO LEAVE CUZ WE LOOSE THE GODDAMN APARTMENT CUZ NO ONE ELSE CAN PROVE THEY HAVE TWO MONTH'S RENT WORTH OF CASH IN THEIR ACCOUNT! Fucking dumbass. So yah, I dunno who the hell he fucking thinks he is, but he has no power and he's being totally unreasonable and not thinking about anything. He's socially inept and a general idiot. Man, I wish I listened to Tommy in the spring. I mentioned before that there was stuff creeping me out also, and Tommy warned me 'bout that that it might happen and it did, but I wish even more that I had listened to him cuz Phil's such a fucking dumbass and I don't care who reads this cuz now you know the truth other than any of the shit he might say to people. He can't be trusted since he's unwilling to even compromise.
Okie, well, I archived the page and I have a new layout. All .hack and Ragnarok Online though, but it doesn't mean I dun like Nataku. Sora with his eyes shut on the title looks perfect for "Yumemiru" too. ^^ I like this though. It's pretty and I think I'll be making some skins with the cutouts from these too, so yah. ^^
